Description:

The project involves the technical assistance for concerned government agencies and communities to review the extent of hazardous waste contamination from urban areas and communities and develop urban revitalization recommendations for the country. The Technical Assistance (TA) aligns with ADB’s County Partnership Strategy (CPS) for the Philippines for 2011–2016. The CPS seeks to reduce environmental degradation and vulnerability to climate change and disasters by helping the government gain access to concessionary resources made available for greenhouse gas mitigation in the land use sectors at the global level; working with government and the private sector on possible public–private partnership solutions; and improving sustainable environmental infrastructure in urban areas. Description:

The project places functional structures for facilitation of REDD+ activities in the Philippines at social, ecological and governance safeguards, and tested options for financing and benefit-sharing, based on clear regulations and definition of the roles of government agencies. By 2017 REDD+ pilot implementation in at least 3 areas, based on integrated forest land use planning and clear tenure and conservation arrangements, have generated at least 100.000 t CO2 emissions reduction. Results will be incorporated into reviews,decisions and resolutions at national and international level. Independent surveys show an increase of knowledge and awareness at national and local levels on REDD+ and its importance for climate mitigation and forest and biodiversity conservation.
