September 6-8, 2017Tanggol Kalikasan (TK) of the Lower Sierra Madre (LSM) Hub brought together a group of around 40 dynamic and inspiring grantees of the Global Environment Facility – Small Grants Programme 5th Operational Phase (GEF-SGP5) (GEF-SGP5) through a conference at the Bulacan State University (BulSU) in Malolos City, Bulacan. Dr. Cecilia Geronimo, BulSU’s Vice President for Research, Extension & Training, welcomed participants to its beautiful campus.

The LSM Hub conference provided an avenue and an opportunity for leading edge project implementation ideas and deep personal connection to blend freely, which inspired inclusivity and positive energy.

Atty. Generosa Mislang, TK’s Executive Director, presented the rationale and objectives of the activity, which comprised discussion on GEF-SGP5 project updates, success stories, challenges, lessons learned and recommendations; conduct of IEC (information, education, and communication) skills training; launching of a short animated film Amaya Agila; and presentation of final report templates and requirements, and remaining LSM hub activities and catch-up plans.

Conference attendees were able to share their views on the projects successes (and how to communicate these to the public), as well as their insights on the remaining areas of opportunities towards the completion of the projects. The grantees present under the LSM Hub are Tanim Kalikasan (TnK), Daloy ng Buhay (DALUHAY), Tribal Center for Development (TCD), Sagip Sierra Madre Network Alliance (SSMESI), University of the Philippines Los Baños Foundation (UPLBFI), Marine Environment and Resources Foundation (MERF) and Earthday Network Philippines.

Representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Foreign-Assisted and Special Projects Service, Foundation for the Philippine Environment, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office, and GEF-SGP Country Programme Management Unit were also on hand to witness the event.
