As part of scaling up its technical support beyond its project sites, USAID’s Protect Wildlife began a series of workshops that aim to enhance the knowledge and skills of managers and planners in protected areas across the Philippines.
In the first week of February 2018, officials and staff of the Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) gathered for the first wave of workshops, where they reviewed the DENR’s management strategy for protected areas and its relevant policies and requirements for protected area planning. Participants learned guidelines for prescribing and adjusting zoning regimes and determining land and resource uses that would be allowed in protected areas. Protect Wildlife also introduced a special topic on financial planning, which could help generate investments to sustain conservation efforts in protected areas.
Protect Wildlife planned to expand the training to include protected area managers and planners from the regions and provinces in the country. (PWP/ Lawrence San Diego)
