Technical working groups for Mount Matutum and Allah Valley Protected Landscape in South Cotabato assembled for a discussion on protected area management planning and forest land use planning hosted by USAID’s Protect Wildlife project.
Among the agenda was the DENR’s management strategy for protected areas, including relevant policies and requirements. Participants realized how forest land use planning could contribute to enhancing comprehensive land use plans of the municipalities situated in and around Mount Matutum and Allah Valley. Better planning and management for protected areas and forest lands were expected to improve execution and enforcement of land and resource use zoning in these protected areas.
The orientation kicked off USAID’s support in boosting the competencies of its partners in South Cotabato province—including local governments, protected area managers, civil society and communities—in sustainably managing their natural resources and public lands, including habitats of wildlife.
