The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) sealed cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding with GIZ for the "Support to the Implementation of the Tri-National Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion Comprehensive Action Plan (SSME-CAP) Project at Bulwagan Ninoy, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Compound in Quezon City last December 10, 2014.
The said MOU was signed by Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Analiza R. Teh for DENR with Robert Kressirer, GIZ Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, to support the Philippine implementation of the Sulu-Sulawesi Comprehensive Action Plan adopted among the countries of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines to promote trans-boundary biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in addressing overexploitation of shared resources and destruction of natural habitats due to human factors, hence the establishment of the SSME.
Director Theresa Mundita Lim of BMB and Mr. Berthold Schirm, Principal Advisor and Program Coordinator of GIZ served as witnesses to the signing of the MOU. Mr. Conrad Bravante of Foreign Assisted and Special Projects Office-DENR, Ms. Sandra Arcamo of BFAR and Mr. Enrique Nuñez of CI Philippines also graced the event.
With the signing of the MOU, the Project will run full implementation until 2017. The Project has an overall volume of 7M Euro, distributed to the three SSME countries. A similar bilateral agreement was already signed with Indonesia last 17 October 2014, and the same is being pursued to be signed with Malaysia. #
