Quezon City – The University of the Philippines in Los Baños Foundation Inc. (UPLBFI) and the Non-Timber Forest Products-Exchange Programme for South and Southeast Asia (NTFP-EP) sat down with the National Working Group (NWG) for Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) to improve two project proposals related to CBFM. The members of the National Working Group for CBFM come from services and bureaus under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other partners.
The meeting adjourned with an agreement that UPLBFI’s Assessing the Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) Program in the Philippines through Stocktaking and Forest Fragmentation Analysis would be considered under Phase 1 to focus on national consolidation of policies and literature and forest fragmentation analysis, and to validate field-level demands and capacity to generate information. Phase 2 would be concerned with consolidation of information through a database or knowledge portal. Meanwhile, NTFP-EP would have to work on improving the definition of methods for Establishing a Community of Practice on CBFM for an Engaged and Empowered Contribution to Climate Action in the Philippines.
Once the suggestions for improvement have been fulfilled, the CBFM-NWG will endorse these proposals to the Forest Foundation of the Philippines for approval.
