pwp carbon accounting verification certification system 600pxWilbur Dee of the Wildlife Protect project discusses CAVCS

More than 150 representatives from the private sector, non-government and civil society organizations, Climate Change Commission, Department of Trade and Industry, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) participated in the stakeholder consultation workshop on the draft manuals of Carbon Accounting Verification and Certification System (CAVCS) and Forest Carbon Project Plan (FCPP) of the Forest Management Bureau (FMB). These documents will guide the government, NGOs and private sector to develop, implement, monitor and verify reforestation, agroforestry and forest protection initiatives that contribute to the Philippines’ carbon offsetting goals and climate change mitigation efforts.

The recommendations gathered from the workshop would help FMB and the USAID Protect Wildlife project finalize the CAVCS manuals and the FCPP template before they are presented to senior management and policy makers.

Since 2016, the project has been encouraging the private and public sectors to work together and become fully involved in forest management and biodiversity conservation. (PWP/ Meg Yandoc)
