USAID’s Sustainable Interventions for Biodiversity, Oceans and Landscapes (SIBOL) project, together with other 15 organizations, received the Gawad Kalikasan Award during the Subaraw Biodiversity Festival in Puerto Princesa City. The award is given by the city government of Puerto Princesa in recognition of efforts of various organizations in the biodiversity conservation of Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.
Among the project's significant contributions recognized for the award include the conduct of green assessment as part of post-typhoon Odette response, mobilization of cash-for-work for the local communities, and livelihood assistance through savings and credit associations and training.
The Gawad Kalikasan Award validates USAID’s commitment in protecting biodiversity conservation areas in Palawan. USAID has been improving natural resource governance in the country through enhancing science-based decision-making, promoting economic incentives, and strengthening law enforcement initiatives.
