The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Project Management Consulting (PMC) team for the Enhancement of Marine Litter Management Project in Manila Bay conducted a field research activity within Manila Bay regions, i.e., National Capital Region (NCR), Region III and Region IV-A, with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on 18-22 April 2022. The activity was designed to check clean-up operation sites and docking stations of marine clean-up vessel, inspect and validate the suitability of the proposed marine litter monitoring sites, and consult with various stakeholders concerning the awareness campaigns and implementation details.
The Enhancement of Marine Litter Management in Manila Bay is a five-year project to be implemented by the DENR and PCG through a KOICA grant and Philippine counterpart fund amounting to US$ 7.7 million. The project aims to establish and strengthen the environment protection system of Manila Bay, enhance knowledge and awareness of marine pollution reduction and prevention, and strengthen the relationship and cooperation between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea.
